What a day for footy! A blue sky, 28 degrees, green grass and a cooling sea breaze sure showed off the best side of Norrtälje for SAFF R6, featuring The Swans vs. Blues and home team Dockers vs. the Axemen. In the first game, the Årsta Swans gave a statement that they will keep their heads high, despite suffering one hardship after the other during this season, and gave a good fight. In the Södermalm Camp, Brissles acted coach of the day, and promoted himself to playing coach in the third quarter after finding his badge on the tactics board. By then the game was all but over with 5 goals from O-train Oscar and 4 by Dylan, and 10 or so behinds from Tanka. Södermalm was dominating the game from first ball up, and winning comfortably with 124 (18.16) against Årsta 32 (4.8).
Joel “Iron Guts” Burnell played his 50th game for Södermalm, making him the first Australian to achieve that!
It was coach Jordo who put a riddle to the team after the game against Solna on the JCG – What do you get if you take the team captain, last season’s BnF, winner of the SAFF goal kicking comp, a board member, a stay at home dad, someone at choir practice, a pair of exchange students and one or two national team players? I’ll tell you, you get a full team not on the field today! Not even Bluey’s here! It’s not good enough!
Söder came to play with 9 players, but it was all uphill from there. Tarzan ripped his hamstring after 3 minutes of play, leaving Söder effectivly one man short for the game. Iron Guts, still in rehab from a knee injury after pre season curling, pulled on the jersey and settled in the goal square after first quarter. Södermalm largely balanced the game until half time, although failing to convert good play into goals, much thanks to a massive effort by Bull, Oscar and Rob ‘Mr T’ in the ruck.

The game against the Norrtälje Dockers this Friday has been moved to the JCG at Skarpnäck Sportfält.
This is the inaugural game at the new oval and the umpire of the day is Danne Jordansson.
You don’t wanna miss out on this one.
Kickoff at 18.30
So it was said, so it shall be cemented into the ground! With those epic words club life honorary member Danne Jordansson, project manager, kicked off the working bee session to lay the foundation for the new footy field in Stockholm. The Södermalm working company consisting of diggers “Nate dog” Natis, Berger and Tarzan, completed by turbo mixers “Big boi” Brad and “the O-train” Oscar, all supervised by quality assurance officer Larry Lethal, took the opportunity of a short break in the seasonal monsoon to dig holes and filling them with the 2 tonnes of concrete needed for 8 goal posts.
When the flag poles – sorry – goal posts are up, we will be able to say that we have the best oval in the SAFF leauge. Stay tuned to come and see your favourite team at the JCG!
