Pale performance by the Blues

Was it because it was the first game after the holidays? Or the fact that it was Friday the 13th? Or that we have started training with Årsta again? Who knows, but one thing’s for sure, Södermalm made a bleak appearance in this game.

In the first quarter the Södermalm players didn’t seem to find each other on the field and hesitated in the contests. Årsta on the other hand used their voices and worked hard for the ball. Solid play by Iron Guts in the back line kept the Årsta’s lead to only 3 points after the first quarter.

The second quarter was much like the first and hadn’t it been for poor kicking by Årsta, the lead would have been more than 8 points at half time.

Elks walk over Stockholm Dynamites

With near perfect conditions Swedish national team the Elks defeated Stockholm Dynamites 71 to 55.

The Dynamites started slow and only managed two points in the first quarter, letting the Elks sail off to a two goal lead. The Dynamites returned with new strength in the second quarter to find themselves in an eight point lead by half time. Much thanks to solid defending by full back Brendan, powerful rucking by Årsta’s Dan and solid performance all over the field. Söder player “Lethal” Lars Hagberg made a solid performance in the Elks back line making life tough for the Dynamites forward line.

At third quarter time the Elks were back on top by five point, a lead that the dynamites could not close in the last quarter making the final scores 11.5 71 to 8.7 55.

Good Old Södermalm win again at Bromma

Good Old Södermalm opened their account in 2010 with a hard fought 15pt win over Bromma at Bromma on Saturday. In windy conditions, Söder outscored Bromma against the wind in the final quarter to win 67 – 52.

Both sides fielded depleted line-ups which resulted in limited subs for both teams, but it was Söder who came out on top of the close but scrappy game. In this first Grand Final replay of 2010, the two sides showed a high level of respect for each other.
