‘What actually happened’ by J. Murphy

Saturday the 12th of may,
The Blues travelled to Norrtälje for the new franchise club’s debut in the SAFF.
After a strong win in the opening game against Årsta the confidence in the squad
was high, although, there was an air of trepidation on the one hour bus trip north
as the blues were still missing some big name players and they were up against
the unknown quantity of Norrtälje.

Welcome Dockers

Lethal takes the lead in the Söder fishing comp.

After several days of fishing during Valborg, Kungen and Lars avoided the bad name by a couple of last minute catches. With the use of a yellow wobbler Lethal managed to hook a 55 cm/1 kg pike. Or as the French say, Le pike.  As the fish was reeled in Captain Hargreaves muttered “I’m gonna appeal to the SAFF for a territorial expansion in the Söder fishing comp…”

Söder start the season with a win

The ANZAC day double header was nothing short of a success, great football, fantastic weather, and a short ANZAC Day remebrance ceremony by Rion Farmer and Ben Kirk.

Now to football – Årsta, short of players already at the start of the game had an uphill race all day long. Södermalm had a full bench and was all fueled up. Despite a great effort by Årsta veterans Thor, Rob, Mats, and an inspireing performance by rookie Årsta-Max, the tide never turned. The Larsson brothers was non-negotiable in their attacks, Brissles and Brad were bombing the Årsta goal, Iron Guts was the anvil that shattered the Hammer, Tanka was running circles around his defenders, Kaj showed what Finnish sisu looks like and Jamie and Oscar dominated the… well, you get it.  To round it up, the final standing was Södermalm 22.18 Årsta 7.6 (150-48)

In the second game, Bromma 10.18 proved that every behind counts when they defeated Solna 10.11 (78-71). Great effort by umpire Ryan Kingsley and thanks to all who showed up to support your team. Also thanks to Jordo for the pics.

Söder shows good form in pre-season hit out.

In windy conditions at the Årsta back field Söder took on first the Karlstad Eagles and then the Norrtälje Dockers in the first footy show down of the year in Stockholm.

Coach Paul took the pre-season games as an opportunity to assess the new line up and improve on the game that has been so effective for Södermalm; keep possession of the ball by running and handballing. Continue reading

Pre Season friendlie

Tomorrow, Sat 21st, Södermalm takes on Norrtälje Dockers and Karlstad Eagles in a pair of pre season friendlies. Come along and enjoy the first footy of the season!

Busy pre season schedule

Söder have a busy schedule until the season starts with a double header at ANZAC weekend the 28th of April. The 1st of April Södermalm visits Norrtälje Dockers for a joint pre season session. The Bus leaves at 12.30 from tekniska högskolan. Looking forward, Karlstad Eagles and the Dockers comes for a double header friendly the 21st of April. What a challange for Södermalm to scramble two teams! And then a bonus – Solna Axemen will be visited by the North London Lions the 14th of April, and would need a few extra players. Stay tuned for the SAFF fixture for the coming season, which will be finished any day now. All events will be listed under fixtures.

Söder inspect new field

The new pitch at Skarpnäck have some advantages compared to Årstafältet. Just to name a few – 10 or so changing rooms, functional toilets and showers, full time greenkepers and possibility to play up to 16-aside. This year, söder will play its home games at Skarpnäck, save for double headers. Goal posts are not up yet though, stay tuned for a working bee training session under the competent supervision of Daniel “byggare Bob” Jordansson.

Footy in Sweden has a golden opportunity this Saturday; Eurosport International is broadcasting the first game of the 2012 AFL season between newcomers GWS and Sydney, at 9.15 am. Club welcome new sponsor

Södermalm AFC is proud to announce that both Södermalms trä and O’Learys Liljeholmen has chosen to continue their support for the club for another season. Their support the past seasons has been absolutely vital for the development of the club and of footy in the Stockholm region.

We are also happy to welcome Haninge industrigolv as our new sponsor! The immediate result will be seen on our new set of polo shirts which are included in the membership fee for 2012. If you can’t join for registration night at O’Learys Liljeholmen, Fri 16th, make to pay your rego, or social membership, and get your hands on the one of a kind, custom designed, club polo.

Södermalm AGM and bowling kick off 2012

Meanwhile, at the club AGM, a new board was voted in and the old one was duly appreciated for it’s efforts during the previous year. The new board consist of Lars Hagberg, President, Andrée Hansing Årman, Vice President, Marcus Rappocio, secretary, and ex-Prez Ivan Rexed was elected Treasurer after successfully campaigning with the catchy slogan “it’s the economy, stupid!

More exciting is the fact that the club had the opportunity to welcome three new players, Kaj “Kajan” Karlsson, Jamie “the jailbird” Owen with brother Nick-O, who was  curiously seated between the two Steve-O’s, once again bound for Oz. We expect great thing of the newcomers!

Big Dave Farrow joined for bowling, but althought the top scorer with 169, the results didn’t stand tall compared to last year’s club record of 245 points by the Bull. The 10-pin bowler prize was a club tie. Take a minute to check out this animation from the photos of bowling night.

Oh, yes, it\’s bowling alright!
