The 2024 Club Tennis open was held at Good to Great Tennis center in Danderyd 31/8/2024.
With 10 Athletes representing 5 different countries it was a tight contest.
After the round robin series 3rd place was a close finish with team Smith and Kingsley edging out Team Larry and DK.
The final was thought to be a heated contest between Jordo and Ned Hall against Fernando and west Aussie Condy. when these teams met in the round robin all games went down to the wire. However the latter had run out of steam and were beaten 6-2 in the final set.
2024 winners were Ned Hall and Daniel Jordan remaining undefeated in all matches.
Eventual score 4-0, 4-2, 4-1, 4-3, 6-2
Big thanks to Jimmy O’Brien and Sean Logan for organising the fun event.
On en overcast day Södermalm CC Travelled to the far north of Stockholm to take on 4th place Upplandsbro CC. Winning the toss and electing to bowl was the decision of the day.
Sean Logan became the first South African in the club to obtain the beloved “Baggy Blue”. He was the cap 7 for the club and he was presented with it by club stalwart Andrew “guru” Smith.
After Smithy’s long and uplifting teary eyed speech the players took the field. It was immediately from the outset the opposition was in trouble and unable the handle the pace and swing of söders dominating left arm opening combination.
The movement, line and length was unplayable. After 3 overs the score was 4-10 with a catch going down to give the batsman a chance to make a game of it.
Joel Burnell claimed his 5th wicket in his 4th over putting the home team at 5-16 and becoming only the second player in the club to do so, after the Condor. Joel finish with figures 5-20 whilst newly capped Sean Logan a sharp 0-15.
Captain Kingsley brought on impact bowler Daniel Jordan who took of where Joel had finished. immediately into the action Jordo was looking a club second hat trick on only his 4th ball. There was abuzz around the players as the all come in close for a catch. with 4 slips in place it was a dot ball thru to the keeper.
Finishing the over with 2-0 off 1. Jordo was supported by the fiery and wild Alex Tesdorf. Tesslars pace was too hot not only for the batsman but himself. He was unplayable, batsman only scoring of his 5 wides finishing up with figures of 2-5 off 2.0.
The condor came on the clean up the last batsman with the score on 42. off 11.3 overs.

Söder lost 2 early wickets to give Upplandsbro CC a glimmer of hope. however after the protest against thirdly dismissed batsman, Sam “big Blue” Austin, for poor uniform and incorrect thigh pad application, it was all over.
Ned hall and “Tip rat” Murphy remained unbeaten and steer the blue cappers to an anstounding thrashing victory chasing the 43 run in 5.4 overs
Södermalm CC now sit in 4th place with 3 wins and 2 losses. Those 2 losses coming off the last last ball of the innings.
Post match drink were enjoyed at Willis Pub and subsidized by the club legend “Guru”.
Next game is September 1st at home against 3rd placed Stockholm titan gladiators captained by Imran khan. Hopefully we can continue our form.

Sunday, 27th of August at the Good to Great Collector Bank Area, Danderyd, was the setting for this year’s annual and always, hotly-contested, Söder tennis championship. With the weather, traditionally, proving to be pretty inclement in the last few days of August here in Stockholm, the championship was held indoors which proved to be not only a magnificent setting but a classy one too, and boy, was there some classy tennis action on the 3 side-by-side courts as the morning turned to afternoon! A lot of ‘ringers’ turned up to play which always makes for top competition.
Hot favourites and eventual winners, Jimmy and Big Blå were brought back down to earth in the first round of fixtures losing 6 – 3 to Ned the lover of Led and Danny Perillo. Meanwhile, centre court action saw the South Africa duo of Loges and Big H blowing a 4 – 2 lead to the late additions to the tennis ‘tournie’ of DK and Murphy, who powered through from behind to come out tops 6 – 4. This momentum gained by this cool and composed pairing saw them see off their next two sets of opponents to qualify automatically for the final, which was again to be staged on centre court. They would be heading into this final with an ‘undefeated tag’ – heavy lies the crown proved to ring true come finals time!
Other highlights from the first three rounds of pool fixtures saw a few tie breaks which always makes for exciting and at times, some desperate tennis and attempts with some of the Söder boys throwing their bodies around the courts. What was pleasing was that not too much colourful language nor raw emotions were thrown around but would tennis be tennis without a racquet or two being thrown at least once? Keeping with this theme, there was some racquet throwing on court 1 in the final round of pool fixtures – no names mentioned but one of the opponents happens to hail from WA, who got aced, so a lot of antagonising had taken place back and forth.
2023 FINALIST
Immediately after club president Jordo and Söders tennis guru, A Brent Smith, went down in a gut-wrenchingly tight tie break to BIG Blå and Jimmy, a play off on centre court took place with WA’s Big Bronza “Condy” and the lucid left-hander Triple M-Macca joining the fray but got pretty much blown away by the tennis trend-setters of the day. Crowd favourites DK and Murph had the boys howling encouragement and plenty verbals but this attempt could not help derail the ‘Blue Train’ with both Jimmy O and Sam full steam ahead from their serves, net play, general tactics and believe it or not, fitness! final score 6-0, 6-4.

The Clubs 5th Annual Dads and kids Camping long weekend took place at the Klämmingen lake in Sunny Gnesta.
Again The Mayor of G town B.Condon provided some great weather and late evening BBQ ribs to match! As the drizzle cleared up in the first hours upon arrival people began to pitch the tents! and enjoy the late summer weather over the course of the weekend.
With the temperature soaring above 20 degrees the kids were hopping from the 5 metre hop platform all day long late into the evening. The club welcomed Matt Hodgson and kids as first time club camper. He turned up in Style in his vintage 1950’s Red SAAB classic car which created a buzz amongst all the campers, he also manage to land a 40cm Pike with his Boy Oscar.
The chess board was alight all day, to late into the evening with Grand master Elias K giving everyone a tickle up! especially Murf who he played blind folded.
On the Saturday arvo it was annual Kids v’s Dads cricket. the kids are finally coming of age with the bat and ball posting 148 runs on the board. the dads though it might not be enough. Starting the chase strongly the dads were off the a flyer! however a late breakthrough and a middle order collapse saw the kids in total control! brilliant bowling and masterclass catching brought them back into the contest.
Piney almost went for another Quacker but escaped narrowly escaped! to wag the tail but alas the dads could only post 135 going down by 13 runs! the kids celebrated hard ! with a late evening swim in the lake.
By Sunday the fun was all over and many wished it could have been longer. We all started the pack up around lunch and manged to slip away before the Rain came back.
Another successful camping weekend with 6 dads and 11 kids. We hope more can get along next year and we look forward to the cricket rematch against the kids!!!

The chance to win one of Söders most coveted awards- The Blue Jacket, saw a smattering of Söders finest golfers gather in the Agesta GK car park for the traditional pre-game bbq. Söder illuminaries such as Jordo, Brissles, Condo, Macca, H , were joined by newcomers Tipping and du Plessis to watch Electric Blue produce one of Soders finest bbq’s- black angus burgers with the lot With H lending his skills from learnt from Afrikaans boy scouts the coals were fired up to red hot and a selection of Aussie tunes reverberated throughout the carpark much to the enjoyment of the punters practising on the close by driving range.
Unfortunately some late pullouts, Hagberg sickness, Kingsley and Logan “teachers meeting” saw a shortened field of contenders With names picked out the hat the following pairs strolled to the tee Condo/Macca McCormick-Sam Electric Blue Austin/Jordo- self declared early favourites and best golf bag du Plessis/ H Van Niekerk- most racist pair Brissler/Tipping- Old Dog/New Dog
It became evident very quickly when Zach “Tiger” Tipping produced night vision goggles before teeing to ascertain pin distance that this pairing was going to be tough to beat. With Condo and Macca using the forest to their advantage is was also going to take some time for this pairing to get through 9 Jordo and Blue teed off next and quickly showed why they were so confident with some nice clean hitting directed at the foursome in front who were still on the green. H and no clubs DP were next and with H threatening physical violence if his partner did not perform at his best they too showed that they would be in the mix
The greens or browns as they were called, were clearly going to be a factor and caused havoc to all groups who made the best of approach shots- it has to be said they were disgraceful Newcomer Tipping who had recently been offered a tour card with Greg Normans LIV breakaway tour was clearly a cut above the rest. His long smooth driving and assured approach shots along with Brisslers cunning and guile saw them master the browns , Electric blue and Jordo however were not to be denied and kept coming like two old dogs at a bone
With the blue jacket coming down to the last hole all groups teed off together on the par 3. With the final hole settled and a barnstorming par by condo/macca the shots were counted 1 st Place and Blue Jacket Winners- Johnny Briscoe and Zach Tipping +2 Runner Up- Jordo and Electric Sam Austine Blue +3 3 rd Place H Van Niekerk and Pierre du Plessis +6 4 th Place – Ben Condon and Brendan McCormick +9 And with that H told everyone to go fuck themselves, stormed down to his specked up Hyundai and smoked it out of the car park, whilst condo went to the driving range to collect balls for the ones he lost on course.

It was the championships to end all championships. A record 21 turned out. Some first timers and some old timers. Big Blue and Perezmo staked the early claim and they were soon joined by the Duke of Yorke and the two Snowmen. With an early core like that how could it be anything other than a cracka?!
The scoring was conservative in the first game with a majority of scores under 150. Julio and Roberto bringing the pain on behalf of “The rest of the World”. Triple M McManus looking slim as always, it’s just that he could hardly pick up a ball. He had to use a 6 weight all night.
Zach didn’t know quite what to make of the mob. He only landed in country 3 minutes ago, green as Kermit the Frog. Lucky he understands the universal language of beer. Pierre just needed to lean down the lane and drop the ball on the head pin, he so long.
The elder statesmen Cobra, Larry K, Perillo and Jordansson did well to make up the numbers. The body doesn’t get more flexible with time. Why does everything have to get so hard? But wait! Who’s that? The nic Law! Run Kungen Run!
The second game proved to be the high point. In both points and sense. By the time the final rolled around, only a few could still see what they were aiming for. It was then that Big Bronza struck. Who said stalking women on isolated beaches in Western Australia isn’t beneficial for the psyche?? Hey? It’s the rest of you that are perverts. Big Bronza, fresh off an Aussie Fishing trawler rolled 208* to qualify directly to the final.
The final consisted of Big Bronza, Ned, Perezmo, Big Blue, Brissles and Kungen who rolled a 155 to knock out Jordo by 1 point to round off the 6 finalist
As the rest of the competition started out strong and disappeared in direct correlation to the amount of beers drunk, Big Bronza stood tall. Prouder than a honeymooners dick he was. All cock a hoop, trying to be humble but not at all succeeding. All night just standing there like Stephen Bradbury, letting the early favourites Big Blue and Brissles wage a private battle of attrition. Then Steeeerike!
Big Bronza won the final with a score of 146. lower than the 6 qualifying scores, the final was bowled in America style format and with a lot more pressure, not to mention confusing the bowlers who had to change lanes every second bowl.
After the club dinner and awards, Jonathon Briscoe rightly received the honorary life membership. Fergo controversially won the best shirt, with the same shirt, for the second year in a row. I mean, which lumberjack decided that one?
Well done one. Well done all. A great night to kick off the year. See you at the next club social event.

On Friday the 18th of march the mighty men of Södermalm Social club took to the ice After 3 years of absence. No it was not from Corona that has kept us high and dry, it was a 3 year suspension opposed to the club due to spilling to much claret on the ice last time round.
Happy to say that in 2022 the boys made it thru the evening with no blood spilled. The Blue team was the winner on the night on the night. Afterwards all enjoyed a cold beer at the Omnipollo brewery in Sundbyberg.
