Mighty Mick’s Majestic 2015

Our Club Co-Captain had an extraordinary year to remember and probably never to be repeated by anyone… ever.

Michael Larsson was our club Co-Captain.

He was our Club ‘Non-Australian’ Best and Fairest.

He was also our Club Overall Best and Fairest winning the “Jordo Shield” with a whopping 63 votes (2nd place had 35 votes).

He was our club leading goal-kicker with a club record 42 goals in 2015.

Mick won the Stockholm league (SAFF) Best and Fairest – The coveted Lars Hagberg Medal.

He won the SAFF league leading goal kicker award for 2015.

Mick was Co-Captain of our SAFF Premiership winning team.

Our club Södermalm also played in the inaugural Swedish national league – the Elitserien 2015. We won the Premiership of that league too – Mick was Co-Captain of our Premiership team and played the final game with broken ribs.

Mick was voted the Best and Fairest winner of the inaugural Elitserien league.

Mick also ran our club trainings throughout the season.

Earlier in the year, Mick and brother Max lead the Swedish National team to victory in the Nordic Challenge over Denmark and Norway.

Not a bad year hey? Captain of 2 Premierships, Club Best and Fairest, League Best and Fairest in 2 different leagues, SAFF League leading goal-kicker, Club leading goal-kicker, Club Trainer, Club Leader, represented Sweden and won the Nordic Challenge… and he is an all-round top top bloke.

We all love Mick, and look forward to seeing him leading the Blues to more success in 2016!

Congratulations Mick & Rob, Club Champions 2015

The Club would like to congratulate Michael Larsson and Rob Njoku on winning the Club Best and Fairest Awards for 2015.

Rob won the award for the Best Australian Player, Mick won the Best Non-Australian. The overall winner of the “Jordo Shield” (the player with the most votes) went to Mick Larsson with a mammoth 63 votes.

That makes 2 Club Championship Awards for both of these boys, Mick winning back-to-back and Rob winning his 1st back in 2013. Mick is now only 1 win away from matching big brother Max with a record 3 Club Championship awards.

Directly after the presentation of the awards, Mick was quoted as saying “I can’t wait to get stuck into next season!” and Rob quipped “Next year I’m hoping to play more consistently…”. By the sounds of that, we can expect another successful season in 2016 for Söder!

Gaelan wins Gold with “brew for the people”!

Söder 1st year brewer Gaelan Doolan has won the 2015 Gold Medal at the Södermalm AFC Home-Brew competition in a boil-over result last Friday night 13th November!

Last year’s winner Lars “Heisenberg” Hagberg was raging hot favourite, however his brew didn’t go down as well as anticipated, while Jordo sufferred a blow-out on 2 of his kegs that he had primed for the Söder Brewing Championship. Old Brissles’ brew once again fell flat.

This year it was all about Doolz’s Coopers Pale Ale, which he claimed on the night that he “…brewed for the people” and backed that claim up with the most voted for brew of the night – voted on by all 17 punters in attendance. “It was a Coopers Pale Ale brewed from extract and dry hopped with some Cascade hops – it wasn’t any more complicated than that!” exclaimed Doolan immediately after claiming Gold.  It just goes to show that you don’t need to be a PHD Chemist to win the Söder Home Brew Gold Medal – a result that we hope will bring even more new entrants next season!

Congratulations Gaelan, you have earned the right to label your bottles with “Södermalm AFC Gold Medal Winner 2015”!
