Södermalm sent down a squad of 18 players plus coach to Malmö for the last game of the season and the decider of the first edition of Elitserien.
The first half was ruff and physical and the umpires
struggled to control the game. After a couple of send offs the players shaped up and the game continued a hard and well played contest. Poor kicking by Söder put Malmö in front after 3 quarters by 11 points, which was pretty much what they needed to win the competition. But in the final quarter of the season Södermalm showed why they deserve to be called the best team in Sweden. They piled on the whole quarter and won the game by 10.10 (70) to 8.11 (59).
Best on ground was Matt Schulte (6.2)!
“We just wanted to give the guys more game time, we didn’t think we’d go and win the bloody thing” commented President Joel Burnell after playing his only game this season, kicking 2.1.
Everything’s coming up roses for Södermalm, finally.
