The blue-ribbon blue-tie event on the Södermalm AFC calendar – the Söder Awards Night – was held last Friday 2nd November and once again proved a great success as over 25 people decked-out in double-blue colours filled club sponsor O’leary’s in Liljeholmen. One of the highlights of the night was that everyone finally met club mascot Bluey Svensson who had returned from his latest sailing expedition to reveal his true identity and share a few tall-stories from the sea.
UPDATE: Download the full presentation on the Honour roll page!
Drinks and dinner were enjoyed by all and followed by an epic presentation of the 2012 season courtesy of club life member Daniel Jordansson. Thanks also to Lars and Murph for their organization of the presentation on the night.
Club Best and Fairest Overall was won by Swede Max Larsson who was closely followed by another Swede, Oscar ‘The O-Train’ Löfgren-Ferraz who also finished 2nd overall. The Aussie Best and Fairest was won by Chris ‘Tanka’ Tancredi who added to his already successful season as Club and SAFF leading goal-kicker. 2nd place in the Aussie count was Brad Stahlhult in his debut season.
Other awards on the night included “Most Consistent” which was won by The O-Train. Oscar polled consistently well in the 5 games he played in 2012 and has vowed to play more games in 2013 after he finished 4th in the ‘Lars Hagberg Medal’ for the best Swede in the entire SAFF competition.
The Coaches Award in 2012 went to Kaj Karlsson who played in most games and was a key member of the team in 2012. Kaj placed 3rd in the Lars Hagberg Medal as the 3rd best non-Aussie in the entire SAFF competition, only 2 votes behind eventual winner Mick Larsson.
The ‘Club Person’ award was last presented in 2009 as a joint award to David Carde and Lena Österberg. The Board has decided to present this award again in 2012, this time to Micke Perez who has shown outstanding service to the club this year in helping out off the field and also managed to appear on it. Micke was honoured with a guernsey from one of his favourite teams – The Screaming Eagles.
The Söder Fisherman of the year 2012 was awarded to Sean ‘Kungen’ Hargreaves, who pulled in a 69cm Gädda during the year. This award opens on the club ice-fishing trip earlier in the year and is awarded to the person who pulls in the biggest fish on that ice-fishing trip. If however, as was the case this year, no fish are caught on that trip, then the competition is open for all fish caught throughout the year until the Söder Presentation night.
Three players joined Lars Hagberg as “50 game players” for the club during 2012. Congratulations to Max Larsson, Petter Eek, and Johan Dahlberg who each passed this milestone. We are still awaiting the first Aussie to play their 50th game for the club.
We are looking forward now to a packed social calendar during the winter, leading off with the Chess Championship on Friday 23rd November, and followed by the Pool Championship on Friday 7th December.
