The Mighty Södermalm continued their 200e centre of the ground which played a big role in keeping the opposition goal-less as The Moose repelled any attacks that Bromma could muster. His contribution of 3 goals also ensured that he received the honour of “Players’ Player” – as voted by all the Söder players.
Coach Jordo took the opportunity to shake-up the team line-up by throwing key defence players Ivan ‘Tarzan’ Rexed and ‘Lethal’ Lars Hagberg forward. ‘Tarzan’ did well to create opportunities for himself and others, but wayward kicking resulted in 3 points for the man from the jungle. However ‘Lethal’ took his opportunity up forward to slot his first SAFF League goal for Södermalm. Henrik Engervall also found his way forward to score his first goal for the club, this on top of spending half his day in the ruck giving the Söder midfield first use of the ball.
Söder blooded 3 new recurits in this game with all 3 players finding their feet and joining the extended goal kicking list. Young Australian gun Daniel Goldberg showed his great potential with a classy display up forward for Södermalm creating many chances and scoring 2 goals himself. Daniel proved that his pace and cool-head under pressure were too much for the opposition. Young Swedish gun Daniel Wilson played his first ever Aussie Rules game, but you wouldn’t have guessed that from the side-line when he marked and goaled soon after coming on to the ground. And Zach rounded off the great work by new Söder recruits by playing an outstanding game at half back with his drive through the centre to give our forwards plenty of the ‘Screamer’. Zach also topped off his 1st game of Aussie Rules with a goal.
The Larsson Brothers Mikael and Max were again a dominating force as they both scored goals and set-up many others. The Larsson Boys are consistent high-level performers and a big part of Södermalm’s undefeated start to 2009. Johan Dahlberg remains in top form and continues to add new traits to his game each week, notably in this match providing several team-mates with shepherds that allowed them to break away from the opposition without pressure. His 3 goals including 2 in 30 seconds were also a big contribution.
Joel ‘Iron Guts’ Burnell continued his form improvement this week but still has a bit to go before he reaches the heights of his 2008 Söder Club Champion (Australian) form. We look forward to seeing him return to top form in the 2nd half of the season in time for finals.
The Södermalm Blues look forward to re-gaining key players in August and improving on their 1st half of the 2009 season.
The SAFF now takes a break over July and will return in August with Södermalm’s next game to be played on Friday 7th August against Solna Axemen @ Arstafältet. Kick-off at 6.30pm.
See you there!
