Bitter defeat for Södermalm in final

With one victory each during the season, even though Södermalm made minor premiers convincingly, it was really anyones game in the Grand Final. The short version is – The blues got themselves a small lead in the first quarter, Solna got back and got a few goals ahead in Q3. Söder gave chase in last quarter, and w ith only 5 minutes to go of the game Solna was up by one goal only. Failing to fully convert the momentum regained, it was Solna who got the last goal and sealed the 2011 SAFF championships. Ultimately Södermalm lost to Solna with 102-114. Best on ground was Söder’s Natis Johansson. Have a look at Frank Heuts’ pics on Facebook.

Special thanks to Solna for a good game, Ryan for umpireing, all who came to watch and to all of Södermalm for an outstanding season!

Stay tuned for SAFF and Södermalm off-season activities, starting off with AFL GF breakfast at the Liffey Sat 1st of Oct, Södermalm end of season dinner at O’Learys Liljeholmen Fri 7th 28th of Oct, and SAFF awards night at the Oxen Sat 15th of Oct

Söder book tickets to….. the finals!

Just like last year Söder faced Bromma Vikings in today’s semi-final, and just like last year Södermalm was favorites after winning the minor championships. But all similarities end here. Coach Paul put any such thought to rest before the first quarter “If you chew them up in small bites, you just can’t choke. Start out strong, and then turn up the heat!” Södermalm was playing a running game, Tanka, Petter and Natis was all over the place sending hand passes to the right address, and went in hard for the ball throughout the game, with players player Oscar “The O-train” Löfgren-Ferraz and Chris “the Bull” Angus leading the way through whatever Bromma put in front of them.

The Vikings put up a good fight and shadowed Söder the first 2Qs, but faced with a relentless defense led by Lethal Lars Hagberg and Iron “Joel Burnell” Guts, and after signing in almost the entire Södermalm team in the scoresheet it was the premiership Q that settled the game.

Next week will see the SAFF GF between Södermalm and Solna, after the Axemen won a close-fought game against a Årsta Swans struggling with numbers and even short of a coach! Sat 17th @ Årstafältet, 12.00 13.00. Be there to support your favorite team!
