A cracking finish to the junior season

After the SAFF Grand Final it was time for the decider in this year’s junior competition. In perfect conditions and in front of the biggest crowd yet the Bromma and Södermalm juniors stepped onto the oval. The quick free flowing game we’ve come to know from the young footballers was combined with long penetrating kicks and several impressive marks. All in all a great game to finish the season. Big thanks to all the players, coaches, parents and supporters. See yas all next season!

Second round of the junior competition

As a curtain raiser for the SAFF semi final the Söder and Bromma juniors took to the field for their 2nd game of the season.
The day started with a combined training session headed by Gills, Rappa and Jonas. Some of the senior players figured they could pick up a thing or two and joined in as well.
The juniors impressed everyone in the first game by showing that they could put into practice what they’ve learned at training.  Today was no difference. Straight from the first ruck the spectators were treated with a display of kicks, marks and tackles. The team work that was so effective in the first game continued so rather than seeing a large pack running after the ball there were leads, quick hand balls and a lot of talk. Again, the young footballers showed that they will be a force to be reckoned with in the future, going into every contest with determination and always with eyes on the ball.
In the end Söder got the better of Bromma so both teams are now on one win each.

Söder to play SAFF Grand Final Saturday 20th September 12.00

After the continuation of the SAFF season following the summer break, Söder has finished as SAFF Minor Premier earning automatic qualification to the Grand Final which will be played from 12.00 on 20th September at the JCG (Skarpnäcks sportfält).

After completing the 1st half of the season undefeated, Söder lost the first game after the summer break against Solna (41-61) before finishing strongly with victories over Norrtälje (8-138), Årsta (59-37), and Bromma (102-33).
With an almost completely fit and firing line-up for the 20th September, Söder is fired up to win our 2nd SAFF Premiership against either Solna or Bromma, the two teams playing in the semi-final this Saturday 13th September.

We hope to see as many supporters, friends, and family of Söder supporting us at the JCG for the Grand Final on 20th September with kick-off at 12.00.

Södermalm vs Årsta on Friday

Söder takes on their southern rivals Årsta in the next round of the SAFF Premiership. The Swans showed top form in Sweden Cup recently where they not only beat Söder but also went all the way to the Grand Final. Looks like the Blues are in for a thriller.

First game (Årsta vs Söder) kicks off at 18.30 at the J (Skarpnäck)
Second game (Solna vs Norrtälje) starts at 20.00

Söder make it 4 in a row (by Tanka)

After a very good start to the season, the lads from Söder knew there was only one possible outcome, and that was proven from the start. Söder dominated possession in the first quarter and probably should have been further ahead had they made the most of their chances. They went into quarter time only 16 points ahead.

The second quarter was a bit different, kicking with the wind, Söder piled on 5 goals to 1 to extend their lead to 37 Points.
During the 3rd quarter, Bromma made the use of the wind to narrow the gap to just 26 points at the final break. However Söder were simply to good in the end running out 37 point Winners in the end, 15.10.100 to 9.9.63.

Major goal kickers for Söder were Mick Larsson with 5 and Johan Dahlberg with 4. A good all-round team effort though in the end with every player making a contribution.

Next week sees Söder head to Jönköping to hopefully be yet again crowned champions of Sweden as they lock horns with teams from all over the country.

Club legend breaks 100 games limit in season premiere

The club hereby recognize the acheivements by Lars ‘Lethal’ Hagberg, who was honored with a medal by the SAFF board after celebrating his 100 game for the blues. The seasoned veteran defender did so by kicking a rarely seen goal in the convincing victory against the Bromma Vikings.

Presented with the 100 games medal, Lethal was met with silent awe from players in rookie-dense Norrtälje and Årsta, almost refusing to believe what they just heared, while the players of Bromma and Solna, being considerably more experienced, still spoke of his consistency over the years with the outmost respect.

For players of Södermalm, and for the club as a whole, Lars is indeed appreciated as a person, a reliable team mate, a source of inspiration, and most valued for his contribution to the club on and off the field. Here’s to another 100 games Larry!

Södermalm hit the ground runnning (by Kaj)

The first match of the season 2014 was an anticipated one! Södermalm faced the 2012 premiers Bromma Vikings on a cloudy and cold Saturday. After a long pre-season the Söder boys were fired up and ready to go at first bounce.

The game started off with both midfields fighting hard to get the upper hand. Söder was kicking with the wind in the first quarter and soon put some pressure on the Bromma defense. The nerve settler for Söder came about 5 minutes into the game when Kaj dribbled in the first goal of the match. The strongish wind on the JCG helped Söder to an easy 5 goals to 0 lead by quarter time. Continue reading

Season kick off!

The SAFF Premiership 2014 starts with a triple header at the JCG (Skarpnäck) this Saturday. First up are Söder and Bromma at 11.30. This game is followed by the Anzac Day commemorations and then Årsta and Norrtälje go head to head. The day finishes with a friendly game between Solna and the new team from Uppsala; The Hammers. Get down to the J and support the boys in Blue!

Södermalm looks for greener grass

Last weekend in April was also, in a deeper psychological sense, the first weekend of early summer for the blues. Invited by the Dockers together with the Årsta Swans to Norrtälje, the three teams concluded the pre-season with a mixed-team friendly. The Dockers impressed, as always, with exellent grounds and facilities, but more importantly, the conditions were perfect for a light game of footy. Given the season premiere is already next weekend, it came as no surprise that the three teams were holding back, avoiding injuries and not revealing their true colors unnecessarily. Dockers coach Ryan Tucker, however, declared that he was optimistic about playing already after the summer break, despite still jumping on crouches after breaking his ankle while skiing during winter. Only Söder’s president cannon- ball-Kaj, who allegedly rejected taking a ride out to Norrtälje and instead took the 100km to the coast-near city as a triathlon practice run,  went full on out on the pitch, resulting in a single-accident smashed nose.

Next week is the season premiere for the SAFF league. Stay tuned for updates!
