Natis selected to represent Sweden in the International Cup

Söders own Natis was selected for the squad going to Melbourne for the International Cup 2014.  In total 8 SAFF players were picked to play for Elks and on top of that we have the newly appointed team managers from Norrtälje and Pär Gustafsson going as kit manager. That’s the strongest representation from Stockholm so far. Go the Elks!

Natis 'Naitanui' Johanson

Sweden’s first win, and Natis’ second goal!

The Elks got their first win of the tournament, against Croatia. A 4 goal lead at half time shrunk to a 4 point lead towards the end of the last quarter, but a goal right at the end of the game secured Sweden’s first win. Both “Johansen” and “Caaagh” got a lot of mentions by the commentator. Natis kicked the goal of the day from way out close to the boundary. Kaj to a hit to the knee and had to hop off. The guy’s got sisu so for sure he’ll be back for the next game against Great Britain on Thursday 6 pm (CET).

Update EC 2013

The Elks fell short by just 6 points against the reigning European and International Cup champions Ireland. A few more straight kicks and they would have won according to Kaj. Natis and Kaj got a lot of game time and in the words of the modest Finn they “spelade ganska så bra”. This of course means they both had a cracker of a game.

Watch the Ireland – Sweden game on youtube, uploaded by AFL Europe (1st half and 2nd half):

15 minutes into the game Natis kicks a goal soccer style!
And Kaj kicking the 2nd goal after the siren!

Next game is against Croatia on Tuesday at 3 pm.

Natis and Kaj go to Dublin!

This Saturday starts the 2nd European Championship in Dublin. Sweden, who finished 3rd last time, will be fighting for the trophy against 5 other nations: Ireland, Denmark, Great Britain, Croatia and Germany. Södermalm is proudly represented by two players in the national squad; Kaj Karlsson and Natis ‘Naitanui’ Johansson.
The teams have been seeded into two groups and the winners of each group go to the Grand Final, the runners up play for the bronze medal and the last two teams for the wooden spoon. The Swedish Elks have their work cut out for them as they take on the reigning champions Ireland already in the first game.
Best of luck boys!

Söder goes with a full team to Jönköping!

As the only representative from Stockholm Södermalm will participate in the indoor cup this
coming Saturday. We’re sending a team of 6 players: Tarzan, Natis, Martin,
Rappa, Lethal and of course Bluey. We wish them good luck!

On Sunday the national team will hold a training camp which is a great
opportunity for Natis and Martin to show their skills for this year’s European
Championship and next year’s International Cup.

Söder will also be representing SAFF at the AFL Sweden AGM.

Here are the dates for next year from AFL Sweden.

Natis goes to Edinburgh

EuroCup News!
The Swedish Elks ended up second in their group after beating France and Austria but losing to Croatia. Unfortunately the tournament ended already in the quarter final. The Elks lost against the Poms after a couple of controversial decisions. “Frustrating” says coach Daniel McClaer. Södermalm proudly represented by Natis ‘Naitanui’ Johansson.

Söder bring back the Cup

This weekend saw a revived Sweden Cup take place at the excellent grounds at Norrtälje Sportcenter. The Dockers sure set the bar high for next year’s organizer, and short of the wheather, nothing was left to chance. Unfortunately, this was the factor which would come to put it’s mark on the tournament.
Södermalm had convincingly defeated the Bromma Vikings, the far-traveling Crows from Oslo, and Kårsta Sweagles (the joint Årsta-Karlstad team). While having the home ground advantage, the Dockers struggled to keep up, and the only clear competitor was Solna Axemen. Every result was pointing towards a de facto final between The Blues and The Axemen, when the the wind, rain, and temperature got to be too much, competition was aborted half way through, due to risk of injury and hypothermia, leaving Södermalm on top of the ladder with the highest percentage. The post game sauna was much apreciated.

In combination with the prize ceremony and social the Elks squad for Euro Cup 2012 in Edinburgh this September was presented, and Södermalm can happily inform that club young gun Natis Johansson was once again selected for the national team.

Call for player to Euro Cup

AFL Sweden is currently looking for players who are interested in representing Sweden in Euro Cup in Belfast on Oct 8.Below is the official invitation.

On October 8, the annual 9-a-side Euro Cup (formerly EU Cup) will be held in Belfast. The tournament is now an official event of AFL Europe and its annual AGM will be held in conjunction with the cup. The cup will not only offer high level footy, but also high levels of fun and a great night out! Same eligibility rules apply as for the IC or the EC2010, so only locals are allowed to play. We feel that we should definitely send a team in order to support the positive spirit of footy in Europe.

Interested? Any questions? Just contact the club!
