Sweden’s first win, and Natis’ second goal!

The Elks got their first win of the tournament, against Croatia. A 4 goal lead at half time shrunk to a 4 point lead towards the end of the last quarter, but a goal right at the end of the game secured Sweden’s first win. Both “Johansen” and “Caaagh” got a lot of mentions by the commentator. Natis kicked the goal of the day from way out close to the boundary. Kaj to a hit to the knee and had to hop off. The guy’s got sisu so for sure he’ll be back for the next game against Great Britain on Thursday 6 pm (CET).

Update EC 2013

The Elks fell short by just 6 points against the reigning European and International Cup champions Ireland. A few more straight kicks and they would have won according to Kaj. Natis and Kaj got a lot of game time and in the words of the modest Finn they “spelade ganska så bra”. This of course means they both had a cracker of a game.

15 minutes into the game Natis kicks a goal soccer style!
And Kaj kicking the 2nd goal after the siren!

Next game is against Croatia on Tuesday at 3 pm.

Natis and Kaj go to Dublin!

This Saturday starts the 2nd European Championship in Dublin. Sweden, who finished 3rd last time, will be fighting for the trophy against 5 other nations: Ireland, Denmark, Great Britain, Croatia and Germany. Södermalm is proudly represented by two players in the national squad; Kaj Karlsson and Natis ‘Naitanui’ Johansson.
The teams have been seeded into two groups and the winners of each group go to the Grand Final, the runners up play for the bronze medal and the last two teams for the wooden spoon. The Swedish Elks have their work cut out for them as they take on the reigning champions Ireland already in the first game.
Best of luck boys!

Söder players on tour

Already before the start of the season Södermalm’s two national team players show good form.
Martin represented SAFF in the regional game in Malmö last weekend. Although Skåne got up by 7 goals Martin had a solid performance. Allegedly the regional coach was asking after the game “Why aren’t there MORE Söder players in the Dynamite squad?”
On the 10th of April Natis went down to Copenhagen to play the in the 2nd leg of the “Kennelly – O’Loughlin Showcase” The best players in Europe mixed with the Australian U18’s team for a friendly game. The game was played in front of AFL legends Dipper, Tadhg Kennelly and Michael O’Loughlin. Coach Dan McClaer was asking after the game “Why AREN’T there more Söder players in the National team?”

Natis can’t stop, won’t stop

Just when you thought you heard enough of this guy Natis for one season, he comes back like a boomerang. Now he’s topping off the  Euro Cup success with being selected for the JLT Group All-Stars to play the  curtain raiser to the AFL European Challenge Cup to play in London the 3rd of November, together with Helsingborg’s Johan Lantz and The Elks own Coach McClear as manager. Clearly the brightest shining star in SAFF at the moment, Natis commented simply – “too bad none of the other Söder boys came to play the Euro Cup, then I’d have some company for the trip” Don’t know about that, but we’re all exited for Natis’ sake and are sure he will make his mark on the game.
