Söder start the season with a win

The ANZAC day double header was nothing short of a success, great football, fantastic weather, and a short ANZAC Day remebrance ceremony by Rion Farmer and Ben Kirk.

Now to football – Årsta, short of players already at the start of the game had an uphill race all day long. Södermalm had a full bench and was all fueled up. Despite a great effort by Årsta veterans Thor, Rob, Mats, and an inspireing performance by rookie Årsta-Max, the tide never turned. The Larsson brothers was non-negotiable in their attacks, Brissles and Brad were bombing the Årsta goal, Iron Guts was the anvil that shattered the Hammer, Tanka was running circles around his defenders, Kaj showed what Finnish sisu looks like and Jamie and Oscar dominated the… well, you get it.  To round it up, the final standing was Södermalm 22.18 Årsta 7.6 (150-48)

In the second game, Bromma 10.18 proved that every behind counts when they defeated Solna 10.11 (78-71). Great effort by umpire Ryan Kingsley and thanks to all who showed up to support your team. Also thanks to Jordo for the pics.

Pre Season friendlie

Tomorrow, Sat 21st, Södermalm takes on Norrtälje Dockers and Karlstad Eagles in a pair of pre season friendlies. The wheater forcast looks a bit more promising than when Solna invited North London Lions last week-end.  Södermalm – Dockers 12.30, Södermalm – Eagles 14.00. Come along and enjoy the first footy of the season!

Busy pre season schedule

Söder have a busy schedule until the season starts with a double header at ANZAC weekend the 28th of April. The 1st of April Södermalm visits Norrtälje Dockers for a joint pre season session. The Bus leaves at 12.30 from tekniska högskolan. Looking forward, Karlstad Eagles and the Dockers comes for a double header friendly the 21st of April. What a challange for Södermalm to scramble two teams! And then a bonus – Solna Axemen will be visited by the North London Lions the 14th of April, and would need a few extra players. Stay tuned for the SAFF fixture for the coming season, which will be finished any day now. All events will be listed under fixtures.

Söder inspect new field

The new pitch at Skarpnäck have some advantages compared to Årstafältet. Just to name a few – 10 or so changing rooms, functional toilets and showers, full time greenkepers and possibility to play up to 16-aside. This year, söder will play its home games at Skarpnäck, save for double headers. Goal posts are not up yet though, stay tuned for a working bee training session under the competent supervision of Daniel “byggare Bob” Jordansson.

Södermalm AGM and bowling kick off 2012

Meanwhile, at the club AGM, a new board was voted in and the old one was duly appreciated for it’s efforts during the previous year. The new board consist of Lars Hagberg, President, Andrée Hansing Årman, Vice President, Marcus Rappocio, secretary, and ex-Prez Ivan Rexed was elected Treasurer after successfully campaigning with the catchy slogan “it’s the economy, stupid!

More exciting is the fact that the club had the opportunity to welcome three new players, Kaj “Kajan” Karlsson, Jamie “the jailbird” Owen with brother Nick-O, who was  curiously seated between the two Steve-O’s, once again bound for Oz. We expect great thing of the newcomers!

Big Dave Farrow joined for bowling, but althought the top scorer with 169, the results didn’t stand tall compared to last year’s club record of 245 points by the Bull. The 10-pin bowler prize was a club tie. Take a minute to check out this animation from the photos of bowling night.

A Christmas carol from the pool side

Ho Ho Ho and Get right in there!!

pool champ

Well that is what they are all saying downtown in Stockholm inner southern Suburb of Lilljeholmen these days, As lokal resident, Joel “call me what you want” iron guts burnell Takes out the Södermalm AFC Biljard Championship! last friday! In usual Fashion the club had no less than 17 participants turn out to challenge for the Biljard title! and marking the clubs last social event for Season 2012.

and how about the biljard…..Firstly we can say, The hard done award to Chris ‘choker’ Tancredi who choked on the Black against Joelly Burnell to give him the in the group stage and a spot in the semi finals and then there was no looking back from there! Joel Had a lucky Night playing Maxwell. T. Larsson in the 2011 Final. Organiser Larry Hagberg decided to make it a best of 3 final for the first time in the clubs history. Max Won the first game easily, which would have given him the rights to the annual “Ivan Rexed Memorial biljard Sheild” but alas that was not the case. Iron guts burnell Came from behind to seal the deal 2-1 in what some were labelling as a bench mark Final.

joel walks away with the covenant Shield and his place on the clubs Roll Of honour, and Max, well he has to be content with receiving a boars head on a Shield at the local pub afterwards for second place.

In the Semi Finals it was very Straight forward, Joel dominating Ivan ” Tarzan” Rexed in what could only be described as a Massive Mind blowing defeat to The Club Leader. This devastating loss has left the Clubs fearless leader, pondering his Roll as Club President. “ I had it all planned out tonight, and to be beaten by iron guts is totally unacceptable. I guess i will be hearing about this All weekend on the Ice fishing Trip in Feb“.

Many Avid on lookers Slowly broke to Ivan, that his game was just not good enough, and that he must go away in the off season and find a Pub sponsor who has a pool table so We can all get some practice in. In the other Semi, could only be descibed as the clash of the Age! Young v’s Old, youth V’s Experience, Club Captian V’s Club Grandfather. Maxwell T larsson up against Marcus “Rappa” Rappoccio. As they say in Biljard, too old too slow??  and Max waltzed into the final.

Well done to Joel and All finalist on the Night.

It was also great to see some new faces, Dave “Westy” West and “Big Dave” Farrow getting along to meet all the guys. We look forward to seeing you at our bowling championships in January!

Game of the night! Was between The Stephens boys! recently arriving back in town, Their game, packed with intensity and witt, was a real battle of attrition, lasting 90 minutes and eventually ending the first ever Stalemate in the history of pool, what a result! all on lookers and players went away happy with this result. In Addition, there was Plenty of talk about Social events for 2012, Staring with the 2012 footytrip. Duel Downlow medalist, Micke ” half glass” Perez has offically been sworn in to be Grand poo-bah for the Trip, starting in a club record 6th straight tour of duty! like other years the pool championship marks the awarding of the following year footy trip destination. The 2012 Club footy trip has been awarded to the city of Krakow, Poland, and now we just confirming the date with the city planners for our arrival.

Plenty of talk about the Annual Ice Fishing trip in Feb. lock it into your calenders and keep an eye out for the invite it could be limited to 10 places only, however we will see what the responses will bring.

Well done to Jordo, who takes out the Club Fisherman of the year, with his 52 cm Gös, caught in July at the nissan river in småland. Also lock in the clubs AGM and bowling tournament, follow by a day at the Slopes with Rappa! check club websites for dates. Söder off-season kick off

Södermalm chess club

Södermalm club awards night is only a few days away, Fri 28th of Oct, 19.00 at our sponsor pub O’Learys Liljehomen, but we are already looking ahead towards the end of next month, when the prestigeous Chess night is being held. Reigning Södermalm chess champion Brissles, with two consecutive wins, is organizing this years event in his föreningslokal the 25th of Nov, in combination with a beer tasting. The selestion is a well kept secret, but it has been made clear that Harboe pils, by some referred to as Harboe p**s, will not be the drink of choice again.

Beforehand roumors talk about a repeat of the classic 2009 Max vs. Ryan game, with Ryan looking for revenge for his abrupt 3-move loss.
