On a beautiful day and near perfect football conditions it was round 3 of SAFF, Södermalm at home against Neighbouring club Årsta swans.
The Årsta swans got the jump on the Södermalm team with only taking minutes to score their first goal! it was a classy bit of play thru the experinced and hard working Damo Gatfield, SAFF Stalwart Boots and Simon faremo of Årsta that set their goal up! Comments from Årsta super coach, Thor Birtley, were heard on the Söder bench, “great work guys! keep this up and we will really rattle the cage!”
The söder team responded well with 2 straight goal, it was won from the ruck with Danne “”the wolfman”” Wilson and super boot Petter Eek dominating with some great passages of play. Söder went into the huddle 3 goals up kicking 5 goal straight for the quarter.
In the second quarter the söder back line was solid and as was Årsta. Brutis the beefcake from Årsta was dominating the Hard ball gets and Pär son of gustav was also instrumental. comments were heard by all! of there courage! by Årsta full forward Pete wiese. “great stuff guys! thats what we need! everyone is lifting for the swans!”
Söder Answered this with the Voice of the Son Of Söder, Söder captain, Lars “SOS” Hagberg, dominating the rebound play, showing he is AFL Sweden material, doing everything right, dodging,stepping, weaving, taking them on! and lots of voice! to his teammates!
After an enthralling quarter of footy, both team score 2 goals each in the second quarter. At the halftime break the margin was still only 3 straight kicks!
In the Söder Huddle, comment from Coach Jordo were heard, “you guys are playing fantastic! great stuff! you are all having a red hot go and doing everything right i have been teaching you the last 4 years! this is what brings in the Crowds, what else can i say!”
Coach jordo made 1 change giving the goal starve Fullback a shot up front to score some goal! it turned out to be a great tactical move, as the Söder fullback, Lars Hagberg, kicked 3goals 1 to dominate the quarter Up front in uncharted territory for him!
The ball flowed from the back line thru father son, son combination Paul to Cody to Dan Stephens! it was a SAFF first that all 3 from one family have played in a game and another first that they went kick, kick, kick, hagberg goal!
Another Söder Family combo was happening at the same time! 2009 Club B&F JoHan Dahlberg was out injured so he brought in his cousin Alex Dahlberg, who took mark of the Day, with a massive hanger on the forward Flank! and kicked a goal later in the game as well. the Ex Handball, now Afl Convert, was quoted after the game, “I love this game! if JoHan wants his Number 12 back i think he is gonna have to earn it from me!”
Söder finished the premiership quarter, 5 goals up on the Swans.
The last quarter started with a huge Mark to “Big blue” Austin, up forward! IT was great to watch, as he was held the footy aloft! to show umpire Kingsley that he has actually held it! new a standard trade mark of “The Big Blue!” Kicking his second goal of the day with out tracksuit pants! coach jordo said “Thats enough for Blue, get him off and he can tub up and prep the BBQ”.
In an even last quarter Söder ran out winners by 6 goals in the end! Both teams played fantastic footy! and Söder were lead by Danne “Wolfman” Wilson, Petter Eek, Lars “SOS” Hagberg, Tanka! and the Stephens, Great footy all round!
Final scores were Södermalm 15.6.96 to 9.7 61 Årsta, Afterwards btoh team stayed back to enjoy the Weather and Great BBQ run by Brissles and Sam “Big Blue” Austin. along with dave and lena and jenny! thanks for a great job there!
