Söder celebrate Ivan’s 50th with a win! (by Chris Tancredi)

It was the 2012 Grand Final rematch between Södermalm and Bromma, approximately 7 months earlier it was Bromma who were successful, this time Söder. It was a team that comprised of a Spaniard, a Finn, an American, a few Aussies, a few Swedes, and a Murph (sounds like the start of a joke).

Söder entered the match with several new faces who were keen to stamp their authority and they didn’t disappoint.

Remembrance ceremony. Kudos to Martin Schulte-Hötte for the pic!

Corbin & Carsen dominating up forward, Rob in the ruck, and San Miguel and Jake in defence. The game was in the balance in the first quarter until our players decided to flex their muscles and show those Vikings just who is boss. Söder were clearly too good across the park all day outscoring Bromma 24 goals to 5 after quarter time.

The final score being:
Söder:           26.18.174
Bromma:       7.11.53

A few noteworthy things.

–          Ivan kicking goal and celebrating a win in his 50th game

–          Lars doubling his career goal tally in just one game

–          Carsen kicking a goal with his very first kick in Aussie Rules, then following it up with a 2nd goal

–          Rob’s dominance in the ruck contests

–          A 6 goal haul on debut to Corbin

Overall it was a great team effort across the day and let’s hope Söder can back up their performance with a good win this week as well.
