Söder hold on to beat Solna (by The O-Train)

In the first match at Friday’s double header at the JCG Söder got back at Solna for the loss before summer. With both teams missing players at the European championship in Dublin the game turned out to be a close battle all the way through.

Söder opened the scoring but Solna fought back in the latter part of the first quarter and were ahead at the first break.

The second quarter opened as badly as the first ended for the Blues but the tide again changed and Söder got back in to the game after being able to keep the pressure in the midfield and scoring a couple.

The third quarter turned out to be Söder’s best where again the midfield was dominated and Solna were kept on their own half of the field for most of the quarter.

Söder got into the fourth quarter with a two goal lead and, which was extended to a three goal lead early on. From that point however the Söder game stalled, much because I-guts had to leave the game at three quarter time after a solid performance as fullback. Solna kept the pressure high and pinned Söder down. Point by point the lead shrunk but some late minute heroics saved the game for Söder as Solna were pressured to miss a couple of crucial kicks.

Final score Södermalm 8.4 (52) – Solna 7.7 (49)

Generally a good performance by all Söder players although the team performance had both its highs and lows. I-guts, as mentioned, had a solid game at the back and Bull ran hard the entire game at midfield. Ivan and Larry also stood out with their best performances of the season. DonKey is also getting better for each outing and Söder showed off two great tacklin-machines in Medium Dave and Miguel who had some hard hits flatting Axemen.

If we just step up the game a notch this should be Söders year. Don’t forget trainings Wednesdays 18.00 at the JCG.
