A Blue day for Årsta

On a fantastic Day for footy, it was the 2 southern teams of Stockholm going head to head!

Last time they met was 2 week ago; where Årsta came out victors in their first ever win over the Södermalm Blues. This time the blue baggers were fresher and better prepared for the Swans.

It was the Blues to kick the first goal of the day, with a strong mark up front by Sean “Kung Me” Hargreaves. Sean had missed the last few games due to an extended vacation, but it was great to have him back in the line up again. At the end of the first quarter it was 3 goals to nil to Södermalm.

In the second quarter, the game was quite even from both teams, with great passage of play by both teams. Cody and Son Of Söder, Lars were strong in defense, with great rebounding footy, as was the running back man Ivan “Tarzan” Rexed, who follow the play all the way into the forward line and snuck in a cheeky goal.

Chris Tancredi curled in a great goal from the boundary line to excite the Söder boys, before Årsta posted their first goal of the match.

It was looking like an Årsta come back, with their inspired goal from coach Pete Weise, great rucking from Dan Koinberg and roving from fearless Thor Birtley and Brutes Beefcake. However a shocking injury on the verge of half time to Club veteran, Damo Gatfield could be a crushing blow.

After the extended half time break with the injury. Söder regrouped the better and came out and blew Årsta away with 7 straight goals to 1 in the 3rd term. Again Sean “kung me” Hargreaves and Petter Eek were dominating up front, bagging 10 goals between them for the game. Coach Jordo was very satified as he asked for 5 goals and the boys delievered 7.

Great Rucking from Danne Wilson and roving from the mid field Joel and Johan saw that söder ran out Victor 106 to 23. “”This was a good performance by the Söder team, Everyone enjoyed there footy and now we feel like we are back on track for the finals in 2010, can’t wait for it”” says Captain and Players Player for the day, Lars “”SOS”” Hagberg.

Vice Captain Max Larsson, who was out for his final match due to a minor viral ailment, also stated after the match “” maybe i should of played up forward so i could get amongst the goals, and by the way how about some farewell drinks on wednesday after training”” the cheers went up around the BBQ, so we assume there will be a good attendance at training this wednesday!

We all wish Damo a speedy recovery and look forward to see him at the footy over the coming weeks as the season comes to close. Could this be career ending???

Next week Round 9 ‘Rivalry Round’ Clash will be against Bromma, which will be a preview for the qualifying final the following week.
