Four seasons in one day

Under constantly changing weather conditions Södermalm faced the Solna Axemen for the second time this season. Söder were still missing a few key players but happy to see the return of SAFF B&F winner Max Larsson, who had been out since the Anzac Day round.

Solna’s strong Aussie fraction came out straight of the blocks in the 1st quarter and with the wind they managed to give their team a healthy lead. Halfway into the quarter Söder started to fight back and reduced the lead to 4 goals going in to the first break. Jordo tried moving around some of the players to utilize the wind in the 2nd quarter. However the Söder players found themselves either chasing opposition in the centre or watching the ball go over their head for a goal. Even with the Wolfman’s first-class ruck work the ball seemed to go Solna’s way all the time. Only 1 goal for Söder in the quarter meant a 9 goal lead to Solna.

Jordo realized the problem was Solna players running untouched in the centre. The remedy? A healthy dose of tackling. “Put them on the ground!!!” Jordo spoke and the players listened. It was a totally different team that walked on to the field in the 3rd quarter. Hard hits from Iron Guts, Chris, Cody and Ivan effectively put an end to the Solna game play, and it showed on the score board. The game changed and turned into a low scoring, 1:ers, hard hitting and ball chasing battle. Neither team scored a goal in the quarter.

The 4th quarter continued much like the 3rd but with a few more goals. Söder played well but so did Solna and the quarter ended in a draw. Seabass popped the goal scoring cherry in the Södermalm outfit with a torpedo kick from right flank.

During the game Södermalm displayed everything from confused hesitation to hard hitting determination, but unfortunately woke up too late this time. Despite playing well in the second half they couldn’t do anything about Solna’s big lead and final score was 46-111.

Player’s player was awarded to Cody Stephens. He had his work cut out for him when he was put on marking Jake Richards but never backed down and did his job with splendour.

The discussion around the BBQ revolved around whether Fergal and Trevor are actually twins. Ivan argued that it was quite possible that they could have been separated at birth and Trevor adopted to Australia. Petter pointed out their birth dates differ by 3 years and that “they just look very alike”.
